The Standard Japan is a practical guide to travelling and living in Japan: when to go and how to avoid the crowds, how to get around, where to stay, what to eat, and what has changed this season.
We launched because we were tired of the same ten recommendations being recycled across every travel blog, influencer account, and listicle. Tokyo is a city of 14 million people and infinite subcultures. It deserves better coverage.
The Standard Japan is run from Japan. We check dates, prices and timetables against the operators and official sources on the day we write, we update pages when those sources change, and we write with opinion, because a guide that won't tell you what to skip isn't much of a guide.
