Best Breakfast in Tokyo: 15 Spots From ¥500 to Buffets
Where to eat breakfast in Tokyo: Japanese breakfast near Tsukiji, pancakes, kissaten morning sets, ¥150 konbini onigiri and hotel buffets, by area.

Short version: pick by opening time. The earliest sit-down breakfast is sushi at Toyosu Market from 6am. Pancake cafes open around 9am. Kissaten morning sets run until 11am. The details below were re-checked in October 2026, and two things older lists get wrong are fixed: Tokyo's famous breakfast sushi is no longer at Tsukiji, and the Park Hyatt is open again.

From 6am: Toyosu Market sushi
The sushi counters that used to be inside Tsukiji's inner market moved to Toyosu Market in 2018. Daiwa Sushi is on the 1st floor of Toyosu's fruit-and-vegetable building, open 6am–1pm. The best selection is from opening until about 10am. It is closed on Sundays, national holidays and market holidays, so check the market calendar before you go. Sushi Dai is also at Toyosu, and also draws long queues.
Tsukiji Outer Market is still busy in the morning, and many stalls serve seafood rice bowls from early on, if you want the old Tsukiji streets rather than the new market.
From around 9am: pancakes
Flipper's — Fluffy souffle pancakes. The Shimokitazawa shop opens 9:30am–8pm and the Jiyugaoka shop 9am–7pm. Weekends mean queues.
bills Omotesando — Ricotta hotcakes and scrambled eggs, on the 7th floor of Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku, open 8:30am–10pm. Reserve on weekends.
Until 11am: kissaten morning service
Japan's coffee shops serve a morning set: order a drink before 11am and food comes with it. At Komeda Coffee, the national chain from Nagoya, the morning set runs from opening until 11am every day: order a drink and you get a slice of toast or a bread roll free, plus one of boiled egg, homemade egg spread or sweet red-bean paste, and butter, strawberry jam or a soy spread for the bread (per Komeda's official site). Independent kissaten set their own times and prices, so look for モーニング on the sign or menu.
Cheapest: konbini and beef-bowl chains
A convenience store breakfast of onigiri, an egg sandwich and coffee is the fastest and cheapest option, and every 7-Eleven, Lawson and FamilyMart has it from early morning. Beef-bowl chains such as Yoshinoya, Sukiya and Matsuya serve Japanese breakfast sets (rice, miso soup, grilled fish or egg) in the morning, and many branches are open around the clock.
Hotel breakfast
Park Hyatt Tokyo (Nishi-Shinjuku) closed for renovation in May 2024 and reopened on December 9, 2025, so its high-floor breakfast is back on the list. Check the hotel's site for current times and prices.
