Nakameguro Guide 2026: Canal, Coffee, Sakura
Nakameguro: the Meguro River walk, about 800 cherry trees lit up in bloom, Onibus Coffee, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tsutaya under the tracks.

Nakameguro is a quiet neighbourhood built along the Meguro River, a couple of stops from Shibuya. People come for the river walk, the coffee and small shops, and in spring for the cherry trees. A half day is enough.
Getting there
Nakameguro Station is on the Tokyu Toyoko Line from Shibuya and the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. The river is right outside. From JR Meguro Station it's about a ten-minute walk to the river further downstream.
The river
About 800 Somei-yoshino cherry trees line roughly 4km of the Meguro River. They usually peak in late March or early April. While they're in bloom the stretch from Nanbu-bashi, near Nakameguro Station, up to Saikachi-bashi is lit from 17:00 to 20:00. Weekend afternoons in bloom are packed; go on a weekday morning if you can.
The rest of the year, walk the river paths and side streets. That's most of what Nakameguro is.
Coffee
Onibus Coffee. Two shops: one a minute from the station in a converted old house, the other seven minutes away inside the SANU NOWHERE complex. Both 9:00–18:00.
Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo. About 14 minutes upriver: four floors designed with Kengo Kuma, and the only Starbucks in Japan that roasts its own coffee. From October 1, 2026, open 8:00–22:00.

Books
Nakameguro Tsutaya Books is under the railway tracks by the station, with a Starbucks inside. Open 10:00–22:00.
Nearby
Daikanyama is a short walk uphill, so the two fit into one afternoon. For a broader comparison, see Tokyo neighborhoods compared. For vintage and live music, go to Shimokitazawa.
