Osaka is where a budget goes furthest. Every hotel on this list cost under ¥14,000 for two, near a station and well reviewed, and the cheapest was about ¥9,000. Almost all of the value is along the Midosuji subway line between Yodoyabashi and Namba, which is also where most visitors want to be.

We used the same three rules as for our Tokyo and Kyoto lists: a private room for two with its own bathroom, a guest score of at least 8.6, and no more than eight minutes' walk to a station.

How we picked these: we have not stayed at these hotels for this article. Prices are the cheapest room for two adults shown on Trip.com for the night of Wednesday 9 December 2026, checked on 15 October 2026, including taxes and fees. Guest scores and review counts are Trip.com's on the same day. Walking times and facilities come from each hotel's own website. Hotels could not pay to be included.

Prices: cheapest room for two adults on Trip.com for Wed 9 Dec 2026, taxes and fees included, checked 15 Oct 2026. Scores: Trip.com guest ratings, same day. Walking times: each hotel's website.

Two of the cheapest rates, at the Hotel Keihan and the Super Hotel Premier Honmachi, are "run of house": the hotel chooses which room you get when you arrive. That is how the price stays low. If you need two beds, book a twin on the same page instead.

Hotel Keihan Yodoyabashi: the cheapest, and one train to Kyoto

At about ¥9,000 for two, this was the cheapest room on all three of our lists. That price was an early-booking rate, 41% off the hotel's normal rate on Trip.com, so expect to pay more if you book late. The hotel says it is about five minutes from Yodoyabashi Station, which is on the Midosuji subway line and is the Osaka terminus of the Keihan line, with direct trains to Gion-shijo and Sanjo in Kyoto. It scores 9.2 from nearly 1,700 guests.

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Osaka-Shinsaibashi: shopping streets on the doorstep

The hotel's directions are precise: from Exit 2 of Shinsaibashi Station on the Midosuji Line, walk through the Crysta Nagahori underground mall and come up at South Exit 5, a minute from the door. Between 23:30 and 5:00, when the mall is closed, it is five minutes from Exit 1 at street level. The Shinsaibashi-suji shopping arcade and Amerikamura are both close. More than 1,500 guests give it 9.2.

The hotel's name includes its natural hot spring bath, Shikisai no Yu, and its site lists a free welcome bar in the lounge with alcoholic and soft drinks. It has the fewest reviews on the list (76) and the lowest score, 8.9, which is still high.

The most-reviewed hotel on this list, with more than 1,900 reviews at 9.3. The hotel lists Namba Station on the Midosuji Line at one minute from Exit 7, and Nankai Namba, where trains leave for Kansai Airport, two minutes from the north exit. That makes it the easiest of the seven for an early flight home. For the airport journey, see Kansai Airport to Kyoto and Osaka.

Why there is nothing in Umeda

Umeda, around Osaka Station, is the city's other centre, and it was the one place where cheap and well reviewed did not overlap on our dates. The best-reviewed budget-chain hotel we checked there, the Hotel Hankyu Respire Osaka, was about ¥24,400 for two. Yodoyabashi and Kitahama are one or two stops away on the subway and cost about half as much.

When prices change

These prices are for one Wednesday in early December. Weekends cost more, and so do late March to early April (cherry blossom), Golden Week at the start of May, and the New Year. The Hotel Keihan's ¥9,000 was an early-booking discount, the kind of rate that disappears as the date gets closer.

FAQ

What is a cheap hotel price in Osaka? For a private room for two with its own bathroom, well reviewed and near a station, about ¥9,000 to ¥14,000 a night on a weekday outside the peak seasons, based on the seven hotels above.

Is Namba or Umeda better for a budget stay? Namba and Shinsaibashi, on our dates. The four hotels on this list in Namba, Shinsaibashi and Honmachi were all under ¥14,000; the cheapest well-reviewed one we checked in Umeda was about ¥24,400.

Which Osaka area is best for Kansai Airport? Namba, because the Nankai line to the airport leaves from Nankai Namba. The Sotetsu Fresa Inn Osaka-Namba is two minutes from it.

Which is best for the Shinkansen? Shin-Osaka. The Super Hotel JR Shin-Osaka Higashiguchi is about three minutes from the station.
