Tokyo Christmas Illuminations 2026: Midtown, Marunouchi, Roppongi (Maps and Official Dates)

Tokyo’s “Christmas” is not one tree. It is three walkable light districts that sell out of sidewalk space on Dec 24. Use official dates + Google Maps, not a three-year-old blog map pin.

Planning note (honest): as of mid-September 2026, full 2026–27 Christmas calendars are still mostly not posted. Everything below cites the confirmed 2025–26 season from venue / GO TOKYO pages so you know the real pattern — then refresh the official links in October–November 2026.

Why go: Garden-scale lights + winter rink energy in one complex. Couples pack Dec 23–25 — arrive at light-up on a Tuesday instead.

Do this: Park bags at coin lockers near Roppongi first; Midtown corridors fill fast with strollers and champagne.

2. Marunouchi Illumination (Tokyo Station)

Confirmed for that season:

• Main trees (Nakadori / Tokyo Station area): Thu 13 Nov 2025 – Sun 15 Feb 2026 (~95 days)
• Lighting: 16:00–23:00; 16:00–24:00 from 1–31 December
• Gyoko-dori (Palace → Station vista): 28 Nov – 25 Dec 2025, 16:00–24:00
• Champagne-gold street trees (~250) along Marunouchi-Nakadori

Pro move: Walk Gyoko-dori toward Tokyo Station for the brick-station backdrop, then loop Nakadori. Expect vehicle restrictions on Nakadori in peak weeks (official page posts the map).

This is the best “I only have one night” pick if you’re already based near Tokyo Station / where to stay.

3. Roppongi Hills — Keyakizaka

Important: Unlike Marunouchi’s long tree season, Hills Christmas 2025 ended Dec 25. Don’t assume January Keyakizaka lights — check the next year’s page.

Midtown and Hills are a short walk apart — you can do both in one evening if you start at light-up and skip shopping.

One-evening itineraries that work

Station-based (easiest): Tokyo Station Marunouchi Exit → Gyoko-dori photo → Nakadori stroll → train home.
Roppongi double: Nogizaka/Roppongi → Midtown gardens → walk to Keyakizaka → late ramen.
Avoid: Trying Midtown + Marunouchi + Hills on Christmas Eve. Pick one.

Pair with winter Japan and New Year closures if your trip spans both.

Practical checklist

1. Screenshot the official hours the morning you go (wind/congestion can shorten lights).
2. Phone battery + Type A adapter if you just landed, and working data for the hours check and the Maps pins: a Japan eSIM (Airalo or Saily) set up before you fly.
3. Weeknight at switch-on; weekends after 19:30 are human traffic jams.
4. Free outdoor lights ≠ free ice rink / market food.
5. Take trash with you (bin reality).

No for outdoor Midtown / Marunouchi / Keyakizaka walks. Yes for rinks, some market experiences, Shibuya Sky, etc.

Best photo night?
Clear air after rain; weekday; arrive 15–20 minutes before listed light-up.
